409 Outline – May Events Around Southeast Texas
May is just arriving and it’s already one of the busiest months for Southeast Texas! We normally add a fair amount of events throughout the month to the calendar, but my paper planner already looks the way it usually does at the end of the month. If you have people in your life who are still walking around saying there’s nothing to do around here, let this list (and the whole site, let’s be honest) be Exhibit A in your detailed argument for the fact that there is PLENTY to do in Southeast Texas!
Before we get started on the day-by-day, we gotta talk about some great weeklong celebrations coming up! First up, the very first SETX Transportation Week is happening May 8-15! Sponsored by the Port of Beaumont, Transportation Week celebrates all things road, water, rail, and air-related with more than 30 fun community events, most of which are completely FREE! You can find a complete list of all Transportation Week events HERE, or just keep scrolling to see them below!
Next up, one of our personal faves and something we look forward to all year long – RESTAURANT WEEK is BACK! SETX cuisine is some of the most varied and most delicious in the world – from tex mex to sushi and everything in between, our area has everything you could possibly get a hankerin’ for. Restaurant Week invites you to branch out and find a new favorite, or simply show a little appreciation to one of your usual haunts with fixed $10, $20, and $30 menu deals. To us, it’s more than just meal deals. Restaurant Week represents date nights, moms night outs, ladies nights, fun food challenges, and more; it’s the epitome of community and togetherness with delicious cuisine at its core. Grab your pals and plan your attack around the full menu, available here.
Our pals at the Cattail Marsh Wetlands Education Center are busy little bees and have a lot of FREE events planned for Beaumont and Southeast Texas residents. Make sure you’re following their Facebook page to keep up with all the offerings!
- Cattail Marsh Van Tours are back! These are completely free and offered on Tuesdays at 2:30 PM and Thursdays at 9:30 AM. Please pre-registere HERE.
- Start your weekend off with FREE Yoga every Saturday morning at 9:30 at Cattail Marsh! Vinyasa yoga focuses on pairing breath with movement and includes yoga poses as well as breath practice (called pranayama). Practicing yoga helps strengthen and soothe body and mind, and this flow is open to all levels. Whether you’ve never stepped on a yoga mat before or you practice on your mat daily, this class is for you! Please preregister HERE.
Over in Orange County, you can check out over 540 original works of art created by 4th-12th graders in Juxtaposed: 2022 Juried Student Art Exhibition at the Stark Museum of Art. The selected artwork depicts images that illustrate the concept of “juxtaposed”, or placing two things together to show contrast or similarities. The Juried Student Art Exhibition accompanies the museum’s special exhibit “Enlarging the View: Contemporary Photography and Connections”, and will be available to view through May 14.
