First Thursday Round-Up: August Edition!
It’s First Thursday!
If you’ve never heard of First Thursday, welcome to the party! First Thursdays, as the name suggests, take place the evening of the first Thursday of every month along Calder Avenue and Downtown Beaumont. Local businesses and attractions have banded together to offer a special evening with shopping and dining discounts, free live music, curated vendor markets, one of a kind showcases, and more! It’s a wonderful opportunity to get out, shop local, and support the community! And we’ve got all your First Thursday plans right here!
FOOD
Every great evening involves great food, am I right? Thankfully, a couple of Calder faves have you covered!
The only thing better than Taco Tuesday? First Thursday at Tacos la Bamba! Tonight, August 4, you can get $1 tacos starting at 5:30 PM!
Just across Calder, Struggle Street Brewing Co will be firing up the trailer with pizzas from 4:30-7:30 PM! If your taste buds are craving something a little more American, head to Luke’s Bar & Grill for BOGO burgers starting at 5 PM – and stay for Jimmy Kaiser at 8!
SHOPPING
Head to MAKE Creative Space for their First Thursday MAKErs Market! MAKE has assembled an impressive group of local makers, artisans, bakers, crafters, and more for their monthly family-friendly market. The theme this month is Dog Days of Summer – so bring your pooch for a free pup cup!
Another vendor market to check out is just down the road at Fe-SiO Therapy from 5-9 PM. A curated market including artists, jewelers, boutiques, and more promises a personalized shopping and self-care experience!
And just down Calder, be sure to check out the First Thursday Party Happy Hour at BAW Resale & Interiors! This party is BYOB if you like – come out and enjoy live music and the welcoming atmosphere – and while you’re there, don’t forget to check out all the incredible murals by local artists coating the outside of the building, including an amazing new installation by local serotonin dealer Ines Alvidres!
ART
In the local art scene, the First Thursday in August is also the Grand Finale of one of Southeast Texas’ finest art shows – The Art of the Flowers. Local artists will showcase their floral-themed artwork, along with “unrestricted, awe-inspiring floral arrangements by local floral professionals” serving as companion pieces shown side-by-side at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas from 5:30-7:30 PM. Admission is free to the public, with a cash bar and light refreshments. There will also be live music featuring Chad Gary. See you there!
