We’ve all rooted for the woman on Shark Tank whose clever reinvention of a parenting device garners her a million-dollar deal and felt a sense of pride as a favorite influencer like Tabitha Brown builds her empire. Here in Southeast Texas, we have some wonderful women to cheer and support as well. The four ladies featured here have developed quite different careers, but their passion for serving the women in our area at the highest level is their common goal.

Kristy Adkins, a mother of four in Kountze, has opened an exciting new business called Mother’s Harvest where breastfeeding moms can have their milk freeze dried. Saving room in the freezer as well as lengthening its shelf life from one to three years is a great draw for many new moms discovering her service. Kristy says her favorite part of her new business is meeting all of the moms. “The breastfeeding community has grown so much since I nursed my own children. They truly are a close group, and I love that I’m a small part of it!”

Courtney Gallagher is the owner of two relatively new businesses, Family Baking Co. and Good Grounds Coffee + Cafe, located on Lumberton’s Main Street. “We love being able to provide a peaceful and positive environment for families to enjoy. Whether it’s for personal study, work, meeting, or just family time, we like to have something for everyone and be a place where people can take a breath and relax for just a moment.” Courtney also appreciates the freedom she now has to control her own schedule and prioritize time with her husband and three kids.

 

Jennifer Sigler has worked in health care for many years and recently opened Beaumont WELLness for Women with her long-time friend and colleague, Erica Cheshire, to offer a new approach to gynecological care locally. A true people person, Jennifer takes time to really get to know each patient. “My favorite part is spending time with them, focusing on what is going on in their lives, family, work and health. I whole-heartedly believe in the holistic model we are taught as nurses to look at every aspect of a patient’s life in an effort to better understand their needs.”

 

Kristin Winzer, a mom of boy/girl twins and a mini goldendoodle, facilitates an online community called Goal Getters for anyone who believes that small improvements over time add up to create big results and is part of the leadership team at RE/MAX ONE Beaumont. “I like being a part of a team that is so productive and is service-based. The agents all work to build meaningful relationships with those we get to interact with and serve, which makes what we do that much more fulfilling.” Her Goal Getters Facebook group focuses on a weekly piece of wisdom thru live videos, posts and a celebration of a member who highlights this principle. They gather quarterly for coffee and conversation as well.

 

Each of these ladies make me excited for the potential for my daughters and granddaughter to succeed as entrepreneurs if they choose and so proud to be their friend! I hope you will seek out their businesses and let them know you support and appreciate them too.

Work/Life Balance tips:

Kristy: “Get your family involved. Let them know what you’re doing and why it’s important.”

Courtney: “Grocery pick up orders are my lifesaver!”

Jennifer: “I try to be present wherever I am. I want those I love and care about and those I am just meeting for the first time to feel heard and that I value my time with them.”

Kristin: “I am a huge fan of the Google Calendar. So that I know what each day will look like based on my priorities and my responsibilities.”
