You get a week off with your family, and it’s time to plan a vacation. Here’s the goal: Quality time. Rest and relaxation. Recharge your batteries. Good food. Lots of fun. So, where shall you go? Let me suggest…nowhere. Stay here! A Southeast Texas Staycation is what you need! There are so many wonderful things in our area to delight people of all ages and preferences in the Southeast Texas area. Consider all of the fun things that you would do with free time at home. Life is busy, and we don’t always get to take advantage of all that our area – and our homes – have to offer. Now is the time. Let’s slow down, connect with our families, and enjoy where we live.
I know the obstacles you’re considering. A vacation only feels like a vacation when you leave your home and work and to-do lists. What about all of the cleaning and cooking and house projects in your face? Will your kids just yell that they are bored all week? Will you end up doing housework and checking emails while they just lie around on devices? Can you have a successful vacation from your home?
With this staycation adventure list and a little planning on your part, your family can enjoy one another and make memories without leaving SETX! Here are some tips to help facilitate a successful vacation environment at home.
Staycation Tips
⦁ Leave your work and to-do lists behind. If you want to be on vacation and not just work from home for a week, treat this like a vacation. Put those things away and enjoy your week off.
⦁ Just as you would plan a vacation, leave time before and after to take care of house matters. Days before your staycation starts – get the house clean, catch up on laundry, and stock the pantry and fridge. Make your home an enjoyable and relaxing place to be, and leave time after the staycation to get it back to that condition and ready to resume your normal life.
⦁ Stock your home with the essentials. Food, drinks, toilet paper, everything you will need for the week.
⦁ Add some extra details to your home to make it feel like a getaway. Special snacks out. Fresh, clean linens on the beds. Stacks of games and books readily available. A restful outside space to sit and relax.
⦁ Make a plan. Have some new and fun things planned for your family to enjoy ahead of time. Make sure you have supplies that you need before so that your week is not full of errands.
⦁ Don’t over-plan. You don’t have to – and shouldn’t – do everything. Leave room in your days to lounge and read, talk and connect, rest and recharge, or be spontaneous.
⦁ Connection and memories require conversation, eye contact, laughter, and shared experience. Not much else. You can accomplish this in your home and in your city!
